The social structure of rural communities where every Ghanaian comes from is such that there is a hierarchy in order of leadership.
Every family, which are called Clans ( Ebusua) have elders led by the Ebusuapanin. A group of Ebusuapanins form the core of elders and advisory counsel to the royal family and their own community ( suburb) where they live.
The death of an Ebusuapanin means that a a big tree ( Odupon kese etutu) and vacancy has occurred. Time has to be allotted for special preparations and other rites to be performed.
Like the Ebusuapanins, the Chief/Queenmother depending on the level of authority, when in death, receives special funeral rites and ceremonies.
