In Ghana, taking of one's life is something that is considered very disgraceful no matter the cause. It brings disgrace to the one commits the suicide, the children if any, the immediate family and the community. This negative outlook on this canker has led to many communities having in place mechanism for conflict resolutions and also community support institutions such as welfare societies, the church, the mosque and the shrine families to help people when in dire need.
Unlike the West where suicide is rampant, in Ghana to hear that someone has committed suicide might mean that the roots cause is either a spiritual, mental issue or an extreme problem beyond resolution.
